How to Create a Website for Free

Creating a free website from scratch doesn’t sound realistic, but when you learn about how much you actually need, it really sounds easy. There is no need to empty out your savings account every month just to afford a website.

We’ll break down everything you need to get a free website up and running.

1. Get a Domain

The first step to creating a website for free is to get a domain. A domain normally costs money, but not much. On average, a domain will cost anywhere from $10 to $20, depending on the name of the domain you are trying to purchase.

This is typically on a yearly basis, but the cost is just as much as going to get your favorite food from your favorite fast-food joint. Do keep in mind that certain higher authority domains can cost a few thousand dollars.

2. Pick a Hosting Service

Once you have picked a domain, it is time to pick a hosting service. The good news is, for most new customers, hosting services will provide you with a free domain name up to a certain worth.

Your first year of hosting can range anywhere from $20 up to $2000. It all depends on how many sites you want to have, how faster their servers are, and what other services they provide.

Some hosting services will provide you with free SSL certificates, which show that your website is secure and trusted. In total, your first-year expenses should only range in the $30 market for one website.

3. Pick a Free Website Builder

This is all you really have to pay money for, as most websites are able to be build using a free website maker. Depending on the hosting service you chose, you may have been given access to one through their own website design.

You can choose to use this builder, as they are often simple and easy to use. But if you try to get too complex with it, they often require you to buy a premium version.

4. Start Creating Content

Once hosting and the website design are laid out, it is time to start pumping out content. This can be in the form of blogs, videos, landing pages, product pages, or anything else you see fit. The website is up to you to create as you see fit.

If you’re a service-based company, creating content is still not a bad idea. It can help with SEO, which is important to help you rank on search engines.

A Free Website Can Be Up and Running Quickly

Creating a free website will still cost a little bit of money, but it is relatively cheap compared to how certain companies make it seem. It can cost less than a tank of gas to get you up and running and that is just for an annual expense. Everything from there is free for you to use.
